Also commonly known as sultanas, golden raisins are made from seedless white grapes and are hailed as being sweeter, plumper, and juicier than dark raisins.
That name is a clue to their heritage: "Sultan" just happens to be the Arabic term for maharajah (or emperor), and "sultana" is simply the feminine form of that word. So one could say that golden raisins are the more noble form of the otherwise humble raisin, and certainly that would seem to be an apt description given how sultanas are praised by professional and home cooks alike. Pedigree aside, like their darker counterparts, golden raisins are equally appropriate for snacking and baking, and they just might make a convert out of you, too.
